Tiivistelmä
Tutkimukseni tavoite on omaa taiteellista työskentelyä tutkimalla ja siitä kirjoittamalla hahmottaa, miten taide ja taiteen tekeminen minussa etenevät. Tutkimuksessa tarkastelun alla on näyttelyprojektini Valosta läpi. Näyttely oli esillä Lapin yliopiston Kilo – galleriassa helmikuussa 2010. Taiteellinen työskentelyni näyttelyyn rakentui valokuvauksesta ja kutomisesta. Valokuvasin neulanreikäkuvia, joiden negatiiveista kudoin jacquard - taidetekstiileitä TC-1 - laitteella. Neulanreikäkuvat ovat valokuvauksen perusopintojeni lopputyö, kudotut tekstiilit ovat kuvataiteen aineopintojeni lopputyö. Tämän näyttelyprosessin tarkastelu ensimmäisestä ideasta valmiiseen galleriatilaan saakka muodostaa pro gradu – tutkimukseni. Koko prosessi on minulle kokonaistaideteos. Sattuma ja ennakoimattomuus ohjaavat prosessiani eniten. Työskentelyssä sattumanvaraisuus asettuu suunnitelmallisuutta vastaan. Olen vain väline, taidetta tekemällä taiteen välittäjä. Välitän lukijalle sattuman kangasta. Sattuma merkitsee minulle myös tutkimusmenetelmää, tutkimukseni rakentuu eteen tulevien sattumien kautta. Tutkimukseni kieli lähestyy runollista tajunnanvirtaa. Se etsii yhtymäkohtia surrealistiseen runokuvaan. Tutkimuksessa tulokset jäävät ilmaan ja vaille vastauksia – olennaisinta on oivallus: millaista on nähdä itsensä luomisprosessissa. Lopputulos rakentaa itse itsensä, nykytekstiilitaide muuntuu uuteen olomuotoon. Syntyy tekstiilivalokuvia. The coincidental weaves - variations of contemporary textile art
The aim of my pro gradu thesis is by exploring my own artistic working and writing about it to perceive how art and making art proceeds in me. In this study I observe my exhibition Through the light, which was on display at the Kilo-gallery at the University of Lapland in February 2010. My artistic work consisted of photographing with my pinhole camera, and from these pictures I weaved jacquard fabrics with a TC-1 device. Pinhole photos and weaved textiles are my theses at Photography and Fine Art. Observing this process from the first idea to realized exhibition forms my thesis. The entire process, reading as well as writing about my themes, means art to me. Most of all coincidence and unpredictability are leading my process. It is a my method of research to let coincidences lead the course of my research instead of sticking to a plan. I myself am only an instrument, by making art a mediator. To the reader I convey the textile of coincidence. The language in this thesis is poetical and opens my stream of consciousness. I try to understand the poetical image of surrealism. There are no answers or conclusions to this thesis. The most relevant matter is the realization: what is it like to see oneself in a creative process. The end result constructs itself, the contemporary textile art transforms into a new existence. Weaved textile photographies are born.
