Tiivistelmä
This master thesis investigates the experience and expression of the uncanny in artistic practice and its connection to self-identity. Addressing a gap in the literature regarding the practical application of the uncanny in participatory art, the study applies a qualitative approach, utilising workshops and artistic practice to collect data. Participants from Living in the Landscape project engage in immersive experiences designed to evoke uncanny feelings and reflect on their mind and perception. Integrating participants' objects and thoughts into the researcher's artwork facilitates introspection and exploration of personal identity. Analysis reveals the subjective nature of the uncanny, highlighting its multifaceted expression within artistic contexts. Findings contribute to understanding the role of the uncanny in artistic practice and its impact on self-expression, with implications for artistic practice, emphasising the intricate relationship between artistic identity, the uncanny, and self-discovery.
